Kitchen texture

The second texture I worked on is the kitchen texture this is only the first part because the second “piece” of the kitchen is another separate model.Screenshot (66)Screenshot (65)Screenshot (64)

Above there are 3 picture of the kitchen texture (first in photoshop and number two and 3 with the texture on the model in 3DSMAX) it’s a quite simple texture but it’s going to have colored line and this is going to be a constant style around the space station, the texture here is a dark grey base with the sink and details in black with a touch of orange for the decoration.

keycard Texturing

Today I made textures for a keycard and keycard port Aaron madeScreenshot (41)Screenshot (40)Screenshot (39)

I started by working at the keycard port we decided that the station have going to have different level of access : Green, Orange and Red.Screenshot (38)Screenshot (37)Screenshot (36)

Here are the textures for the keycard themself also green orange and red that are going to match with the keycard port, we decided to have different colours and chategories so they player will have a little bit more gameplay while trying to  find the keycard he need.

For now we think of using the green keycard is going to be found and used in the livining quarters and nearby, while the orange one is gonna be used in engineering department of the ship while the red one is going to be utilized for getting access the terminal room.

The keycards are not going to be all near each other and the player will have to actually search around to find themScreenshot (35)This picture shows the models with their texture already on each keycard match with his own keycard port and only the keycard of the right color can activate the correct keycard port.

pause menu first version

Today I made a quick and simple first version for our pause menu for Terminal 404 I started it by doing the background for the menu we decided to make a similar shape to the oxygen bar to keep a correlation between them and it’s most grey with a transparent effect to be able to see the game underneath.Screenshot (42)

After than I continued by doing the button for the menu itself I began with the “quit or exit” button to exit or leave the game, also the button have a transparent effect like the menu, of course we decided to use the in-game font to give even more connection between the menu and the game as if it was a screen on the astronaut’s visor. Screenshot (43)

The last button is the “resume” button this button is needed to go back and resume the game also this have the terminal 404 and for the moment that’s the last button we made.Screenshot (44)

Other button could come in later such as the “settings” button it will be used to change the general settings of the game this button is needed because some players would like to change a bit the volume or even the resolution or make the game go from window mode to fullscreen or vice-versa.

Terminal 404 custom font

A couple of days ago I made a custom alphabet for our game I tried to make it like you think about the rest of the game while you read it, I wanted to create the effect that the same people that builded the station also created that alphabet because I wanted to create a better sense of immersion.

I think I manage to achieve my goal because a lot of people feel like there is a correlation between the alphabet and the rest of the game, I also went with this strange style because in my opinion it could even fit a futuristic new alphabet.Screenshot (32)

Survey analysis

We used survey monkey to ask the rest of the class to get some feedback about the current state of our game.

In the following picture showing the survey we did, we asked about the game props the textures the ingame sounds etc.

Screenshot (2)

As we expected we didn’t received answer from everyone but here there are some good example of feedback received.

Screenshot (5)Screenshot (6)Screenshot (7)

those example  helped me as the 2d texture designer to understand what people would like to see in the final version of the game for the graphics, and how to make it blend in better with the rest of the game.

I will hope next survey to make more specific questions about the 2d aspect of the game so all the textures, the alphabet of the ingame world and other smaller details.

Space debris

Today i made some space debris for our game this are going to be used in the actual game after I made them in 3DSmax I decided to bring them in to Unreal to be able to see the models better and walk and look around them in all the different angles.

And because we are in space the debris will float up and down a little bit and will slowly rotate to give them the affect of no gravity this will help the player immerse better in the game and this will fill a little bit more the “walking in space” level to make it feel less empty.screenshot (25)I started with a piece of broken wall I wanted to accentuate the fact that the space station got some problems and broke down.screenshot (26)I give the broken piece of the wall some smaller pieces again to make it look like there is no gravity and the smaller pieces float near the big one.screenshot (27)screenshot (28)After that I made a model of a pillar again with some smaller pieces nearby, I did something different because I didn’t want to make one model and put it everywhere, so I decided to use this pillar to give the player there is the impression of a randomness factor going on with the different debris in space.screenshot (29)screenshot (30)screenshot (31)Last I made a satellite to put in space this one will have a path to follow and will make a small orbit around the station this is suppost to simulate that the station have some mean of  communicating with other outpost but it can’t because it got hacked.
